San Francisco preserved its unbeaten record this season with a six-point victory over Philadelphia on Sunday. The 49ers will look to keep their hot start going this coming Sunday when they take on the Green Bay Packers in an intriguing matchup at Levi’s Stadium. Here’s our preview of this Packers vs 49ers showdown.

Green Bay Packers enter Week 3 as +3.5 underdogs

The Green Bay Packers finally chalked up their first win of the season with a comprehensive 35-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Monday night. It was an important win for the Packers, who suffered a humiliating 35-point defeat to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

Green Bay’s victory wouldn’t be possible without the heroics of running back Aaron Jones. He made sure the Packers would not start the season 0-2, finding the end zone four times against the Lions, thrice as a pass-catcher and once as a rusher.

Coach Matt LaFleur’s game plan to get Jones more involved in the offense after his sub-par showing in Week 1 paid dividends as he recorded 115 total yards from scrimmage.

Monday’s win against Detroit was Jones’ second career four-touchdown game. Jones made history as well with that outing as he became the first Packers’ running back since Andy Uram in 1942 to record three touchdown catches in a game.

The Packers’ offense as a whole was phenomenal on Monday. They gained a total of 323 yards in the win against Detroit. This coming Sunday, they will need to bring that same kind of offensive effort to record their second win against San Francisco.

For the Packers to achieve that feat, they will need Aaron Rodgers to continue his excellent play. He was back to his usual self after a disastrous showing in Week 1, completing 22 of 27 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns against the Lions.

San Francisco 49ers installed as -3.5 favorites

On Sunday, the 49ers will head home to San Francisco with a perfect 2-0 record after beating the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-11. Jimmy Garoppolo starred for the 49ers, who have opened the season with a pair of critical road wins in the Eastern time zone.

Garoppolo took all the snaps for San Francisco in Week 2, completing 22 of 30 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. He also used his run game in this win, rushing for 20 yards on 11 carries with one score.

The Niners’ defense was tremendous in the Week 2 win, holding Philadelphia to just 11 points after the Eagles scored 32 in Week 1. Nick Bosa recorded two sacks as the Niners kept Jalen Hurts in check the entire game. The Eagles quarterback completed just 12 of 23 passes for 190 yards, although he ran for 82 yards and scored against San Francisco.

The Niners will need to bring that same kind of defensive effort this coming Sunday to record their third win against Green Bay. The 49ers’ secondary, in particular, needs to toughen up against Green Bay’s lethal aerial attack that recorded four passing touchdowns in Week 2. San Francisco is 14th in passing defense this season, allowing 245.5 yards per game this campaign.
